After the great Art Show we had in June we have been invited to visit the Severna Park Assistance Network’s location to see how they help others and to learn about the need in the community. I would like to invite families in BLS community to join me in this visit on Tuesday morning. If you are able to come to this July event please click here and fill out the quick form.

Jackson & Ella Art Show 2008

If you missed the art show this year I must tell you it was very special. It was great fun seeing the students submit their works and fret over if someone bought it or which pieces of art they had to have for their own collection. As everyone knows there would not have been an event this year without the work that several of our student body parents did. We need to thank Sally Caruso, Cathy Bowser, Ana Hogan and Tracy Gibson for the set up and provision of the refreshments. Please enjoy the photos from the show.

The creativity of our students always amazes me and I can tell you it was a great lift to my spirits seeing all this art!!  And one more thing, our school with many small contributions raised $1015.00 for the Severna Park Assistance Network!  Super job!

When life brings you lemons, make art!

It is always important to keep life in perspective when events sometimes seem like they are playing against us. No one has a life where everything goes our way. And if it did, how boring would that be!?!? Regardless though, the best we can do is take things as they come and make the best of them. Whenever something bad seems to happen to me, I always ask myself “what would i tell my students or someone else?”
In this case, it has been a pleasure to see so many good things come around over the past few weeks. One of them being this past weeks art show. This is the second year of this (hopefully) annual event and this years went well beyond expectations. The two young individuals responsible for this event are our very own Jackson, and his sister Ella. Jackson and his family are soon moving out of Maryland to take on new challenges and experiences. Jackson has been with us for nearly three years and it has been a joy of ours to see the progression he has made over that time. His family has always been a supporting foundation of our school as far as their support for what we stand for and what we are doing. While we will continue to build on this relationship, and hopefully train with Jackson in the future, we still wanted to put something together to show him and his family how much we appreciate their support over these pat years.

Kids and Creativity

I have included the word Art in our tag line, first because what we are teaching is an art, but only one art among so many.  I happen to believe that art is one of the most important things that we have as a society.  It does so much for us as humans and especially our children, that when I see it being short changed in the education system, I know that the harmful effects are more than we can imagine.  Here is a short talk that really nailed it on this subject.
Finally there will be more about our first art show at the studio, that I know I said was off, but I am putting it back in again.  The story on that will be told soon.

I have put this under Peace Education.  I believe that before peace can happen in the world or in our lives, we must know how and be allowed to be creative in our approach to solving conflicts.
